Questa appendice della FAQ esiste per discutere a fondo la Rivoluzione Russa e l'impatto che su essa ebbero l'ideologia leninista e le sue pratiche. Dato che l'unica ragione per la quale il Leninismo viene preso in seria considerazione in alcune parti del movimento rivoluzionario è la Rivoluzione Russa, è utile esporre quello che Alexander Berkman chiamò "il Mito Bolscevico". Questo significa discutere certi aspetti della rivoluzione ed indicare esattamente come il Leninismo ha aiutato a distruggerne il potenziale libertario. Significa anche analizzare le comuni, attuali, scuse dei leninisti per le azioni dei bolscevichi per vedere quanto tengano. Significa inoltre analizzare a fondo gli eventi specifici della rivoluzione (come la sollevazione di Kronstadt del Marzo 1921 e il movimento Makhnovista e le sue influenze libertarie) per vedere se esisteva una alternativa al Leninismo in quel periodo. Fortunatamente la risposta è sì.
Come verrà chiarito da questa appendice, le azioni e l'ideologia bolsceviche ebbero un impatto decisivo sullo sullo sviluppo e la degenerazione della rivoluzione. Con la sua visione politica statista e centralizzata, la sua visione economica basata sul capitalismo statale e la sua ambizione al potere di partito, il Leninismo aveva spinto la rivoluzione in una direzione autoritaria prima che la guerra civile russa fosse cominciata (la più comune spiegazione Leninista su cosa andò storto). Ironicamente, si potrebbe dire che il Leninismo ha provato la correttezza della critica anarchica del Marxismo. Gli anarchici sono fiduciosi che una analisi profonda della Rivoluzione Russa confermerà le limitazioni del Bolscevismo come movimento rivoluzionario e mostrare idee libertarie a chiunque voglia cambiare il mondo.
